How this is different?

                • Early planning and action - Sufficient • Optimal and judicious utilisation of resources
time for each crop to mature and yield its - Focus on Sustainable resource centric
                   potential intervention.

                • Weather based planning - opportunity for • Lower turned around period - Sufficient time for
multiple crops round the year (helpful in next planning & Implementation (Rabi season)
crop sequencing and maintain cropping on ground.
intensity) • Sustenance in effort towards planning & action

                • Mix cropping intervention -leads to food (in continuum)
                   sufficiency and enriching “Food Thali”

                Pre Kharif-Post Rabi intervention

While carrying out the localised weather based planning exercise the team came out with data
regarding availability of food grains and cash with family in different season thus defining the
“HUNGER PERIOD ” across districts. May to September happens to be “HUNGER PERIOD” in
most of the villages and people are forced for distress migration.
Jharkhand being mostly mono cropping area, people generally rely on kharif production. Under
JTELP the team focussed on the available resources and intervened with more than 89000
households during current Rabi season. Amongst 1.10 lakhs land under cultivation a large chunk
has been brought under cultivation for the very first time (34029 acres land/31% cultivated for
                the very first time).

This year the team has planned for Zaid intervention where the focus is not only to utilize
existing resources (land & water) but also increase the soil health. This will also act as copping
up mechanism for tribal house hold during HUNGER PERIOD.

As common practice, during zaid season apart from some cucurbits in backyard there in no
such practices of cultivation in low land, medium land and upland. The major reason for this is:
                • Lack of availability of quality input materials (seed).

                • Lack of knowledge regarding suitability of crops as per land.
